"Informatica" in Havana
Kathrein at important professional trade show in Cuba
Together with the Cuban Kathrein group member FECOM S.A., the Rosenheim antenna specialist Kathrein presented themselves to a wide public for the first time in Havana, at the "Informatica",
one of Cuba’s most important exhibitions for telecom-munications, electronics, automation and software.
"After Fidel Castro’s withdrawal from politics due to health problems, Cuba is opening up towards more information opportunities," stated Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Anton Kathrein (in picture, left),
commenting on his engineers’ commitment in the country. "In addition to the scheduled set-up of a digital broadcasting network, mobile communications networks are also to be expanded. As far
as cable TV is concerned, the first projects will be carried out in hotels in touristically attractive areas such as on the coral island Cayo Coco, where glass fibre networks will be connected."
During the five-day trade fair, Kathrein employees held talks with the operators, in which they discussed the required components and solutions.
Another highlight at Kahtrein’s stand was the visit of the Cuban Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications, Ramiro Valdés Menéndez (in picture, right), one of the three
commanders of the Cuban Revolution who are still alive. He also informed himself on Kathrein’s new products. Menéndez was accompanied by the Vice-Minister Dr. Jorge Luis Perdomo Di-Lella
(in picture, 2nd from left), who had already visited Kathrein in Rosenheim.
As a supplement to the fair, the Kathrein engineers also offered a seminar for cable network operators. Cuba intends to increase the number of mobile communication users from 400,000
to 1.2 million within two years.
