DVB-T launched in Amsterdam with antennas from Rosenheim
During the IBC, Europe’s largest trade fair for broadcast technology, all eyes looked towards the new antenna towers near Amsterdam’s exhibition centre.
The new KATHREIN antennas for FM broadcasting and for digital terrestrial TV (DVB-T) were installed there using the largest auto crane currently available in Europe.
"Thanks to our engineers’ meticulous calculation, we were able to install the masts without any difficulties. All participants were extremely satisfied with the results
obtained during the acceptance test," explained Anton Vogl, project manager of the Broadcast Antenna division at Kathrein in Rosenheim.
The tower is now 146 meters high and guarantees excellent digital reception of three radio channels and up to five TV channels.
Just as it had done before in the rest of the Netherlands, the operator "KPN Broadcast Services" decided to implement antennas manufactured in Rosenheim.
KPN is the leading provider of telecommunications and ICT services in the Netherlands, providing landlines and mobile telephony, Internet and TV services to private
customers.
"Due to the intensive collaboration with those in charge of the project at Kathrein, we were able to optimally work out the antennas’ radiation parameters,"
summarised Senior Engineer Hans Kollenbrander of KPN contentedly.
The new broadcasting system will be put into operation this year. The old lattice mast will then finally be replaced by the new digital technology.
