Kathrein at the IBC in Amsterdam
Digital TV, DVB-T and IPTV in the spotlight

The leading international trade fair for radio and TV, the IBC in Amsterdam, once again received a record total of nearly 50,000 trade visitors from across the globe who came to inform themselves on the latest technologies and products offered by 1,400 exhibiting companies from 130 countries. This year, Kathrein’s main themes were broadcasting and reception antennas for DVB-T and DVB-H, the new IPTV technology (TV via Internet) as well as state-of-the-art measurement technology from their development department.
At the company’s exhibition stand in Amsterdam, head of operations Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Anton Kathrein stated, "The expansion of the digital television network in Germany will finally be concluded in 2008. We’ve all had our hands full. We are now increasingly focusing our activities towards European and non-European neighbouring countries since digital TV is now on the rise there. The experience we have gained in Germany paired with the expertise of our antenna engineers have lead us to become sought by international broadcasting companies as a partner for these highly complex projects." At present, there are projects to be carried out in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Holland, Norway, Portugal, England, Ireland, France and South America.
Dipl.-Ing. Wolfgang Niedhammer, overseas project manager at Kathrein, sees a growing demand especially in South America and Africa as well as in the Middle and Far East. "These markets are traditionally difficult and highly competitive," he sustains. "Our experience will give us a competitive edge that will help us to obtain market leadership and brighten our perspectives for export activities there as well."
