"Setting positive examples"
Katek GmbH celebrates laying of the foundation stone and reception of a prestigious quality certificate

Ceremony at Katek GmbH in Grassau. The Kathrein Group production company has two reasons to celebrate- not only did they lay the foundation stoneof their new 5,000 square meter production building, but they received a prestigious certificate of quality from the TÜV Management Service. Prof. Dr. Anton Kathrein: "In today’s hard financial times, we are glad to be able to set two positive examples." After delays in construction and discrepancies with adjacent owners which have in the meantime been settled, the building shell is well on schedule. Through this building, the Katek GmbH, a company of the Rosenheim-based Kathrein Group, seeks to expand its production capacity. Works manager Hubertus Richter: "the total capital expenditure amounts to 7.8 million." The Katek GmbH, which is the largest private employer in Achental, wants to exclusively manufacture electronic components for the automobile industry. "We are on our way to achieving our goals for this year", said Prof. Dr. Kathrein enthusiastically. "The aimed annual turnover of 84m Euro will quite certainly be attained." At present, approximately 560 employees contribute to Katek GmbH’s success. With the new building, 150 new, qualified jobs will be created. Prof. Dr. Kathrein: "We intend to exclusively process high-profile orders for the automobile industry." According to Prof. Dr. Kathrein, the fact that Katek has established itself as a complete service provider on the hard-fought market is due to a consistent strategy: development, production and after-sales service all offered at one place.
The Katek GmbH has been certified according to ISO 9001 (quality) since 1994 and according to ISO 14001 (environment) since 2002. The TÜV Management Service has now undertaken the much stricter certification according to ISO TS 16949.
Claudia Miller, Project Manager for implementation of ISO TS 16949 at Katek GmbH: "ISO TS 16949 is currently the highest standard for quality management set by the IATF International Automotive Task Force that is recognised world-wide. The certificate will allow Katek GmbH to secure orders from existing customers and to obtain new customers and orders from the automobile industry. Prof. Dr. Kathrein: "This certification will also open up the doors to other industry sectors." Claudia Miller was very happy that Katek GmbH managed to obtain the certification from TÜV auditors Helmut Maurer and Michael Magg on first go.
In addition to the representatives of the construction companies involved in the project, many others took part in the festivities: the Assistant Secretary of the Bavarian Ministry of Economy Bertram Brossardt, the Mayors of Grassau Rudi Jantke and Josef Grießenböck as well as executives from Kathrein and Katek GmbH.
